%*ODDSAC"{

I'm still tired from the late Lille nights and early mornings, just had a bit of a nap. Now I go back to working on my school assignment. If I manage to be done in time I'll go and watch ODDSAC tomorrow, Animal Collective's cinematic extravaganza at Smart Project Space in Amsterdam, my former work base

Here's the trailer for this 'visual album'

Damn Kelis your new album is fucking incredible

~%BACK TO SCHOOL_+

I'm happy to go back to school tomorrow! I've missed it

Warpaint was one of my best discoveries last year joining Dead Man's Bones and Japandroids. They've made a new video for their song Elephants

After multiple listens I'm really enjoying the new Vampire Weekend album, a bit unexpected as I did not LOVE Horchata, though Cousins I instantly loved. But my interest died a little, especially knowing they're such a hyped band I too started to wonder if they could still live up to it. Don't know about that, but I certainly enjoy their new record. Stand out is the song Run, but let Diplomat's Son and I Think UR A Contra grow on you and in time you'll start liking those too. It's not often I come across an album of which the second half seems to be much nicer than the first, but that seems to be the case with this one. It's usually the other way round.

Here they play Run live

And a video for one of the most fun songs from Merriweather Post Pavilion

As always very fun and colourful

Thanks Stereogum!

The Fall Be Kind EP is so GOOD tooooooo

!:FINALLY, BRIGHT STAR"}

Tonight I'll finally be able to watch Jane Campion's Bright Star at the cinema!! I've been waiting a long time for this ever since I watched a wonderful clip of Abbie Cornish falling into this field of grass and purple flowers. It went like this:

We watch Cornish from behind the flowers, her side turned towards us...

...she then looks up briefly at the sky...

...while eventually letting herself fall into the flowers. I'd call this a perfect Kodak moment, even though I use Canon ;)

Ever since that clip I've been avoiding the trailer, looking away, only my ears being able to hear the lovely music and some lines of dialogue near the end :) This will be one of those movies I just want to take pictures of while it plays. I expect a lot of dreamy shots, a bit like Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette. Just the thought of it already makes me melt and it's freezing outside. Plus I have heard it's a very slow film which in my opinion will only make it better. Gives me time to dwell and ponder :))

For some reason my ears have been craving for Animal Collective these last couple of days with the result that my Ipod has these kids on repeat!!!! Because I happen to listen to music A LOT I'm able to obsess over a new discovery like Dead Man's Bones while in the meantime still enjoying re-listens of Kings Of Convenience's Riot On An Empty Street and now getting addicted to Animal Collective. It's my first ever Animal Collective obsession, don't know what took me so long! I've always liked them because their music is like this big soundscape with so many sounds fighting to get my attention. And even though most people will probably call their latest Merriweather Post Pavilion a summer album, I've noticed I'm much more in the mood for it right now that it starts to get dark and very cold again. I just seem to connect to it way more. Apart from Merriweather I've been listening to Strawberry Jam a lot too which is the first AC album I listened to. Here's their video for Summertime Clothes:

>&I WANT YOU TO KNOOOOOW...\'

Before I go to bed I leave you this:

The Takeaway Show archive is filled with hidden gems I still have left to discover and every now and then I'll go through it and find performances by bands or artists I did not know yet some months ago but only started listening to recently. I've been listening to Grizzly Bear for perhaps 2 years now with gaps in between of course. It's not like I listen to them every single day. I have way too much music to be able to listen to everything every single day! But I just had not yet taken the time to look at their Takeaway Show performance. I love this song as well as its official video which I strongly recommend you to check out. I'm about to go to bed now after a day filled with ink painting. I'm a bit obsessed by it. It's much better and for me way easier than drawing with a pencil or charcoal. I found out I still got some hidden talents I had not yet discovered.

And check out this band called Miike Snow, they're pretty catchy! They remind me of Dr. Dog with a bit of Animal Collective, the catchiness of a band like Phoenix and a voice that recalls Peter Gabriel.

_$DIRTY PROJECTORS + TuNe-YaRdS @ MELKWEG^'

Before Dirty Projectors appeared on the stage the stage as well as the crowd belonged to TuNe-YaRdS. I think this is the first time I went to a show where the crowd actually got really excited during the supporting act and didn't hold back. I even felt they were more enthusiastic during TuNe-YaRdS than Dirty projectors but maybe that was just me. They're a two man band, but the focus is mainly on singer Merrill Garbus who is actually TuNe-YaRdS. I had heard her song Sunlight before which is a nice one but didn't blow me away. I haven't listened to the album yet, but I definitely will especially after last night. Though something tells me their music is much better and fun when being played live than on the record. Merrill is such a force of power. She owned the stage like this crazy woman. The crowd seemed to love it. The responses were extremely enthusiastic and Merrill even spoke of us as her dream crowd. She's amazing live. Her voice so powerful. If I didn't like Dirty Projectors' songs more I would say that TuNe-YaRdS upstaged them performing with so much energy, even though Dirty Projectors were still top quality. A great thing was that it didn't take that long at all before the Projectors came on stage after TuNe-YaRdS. Most of the time it takes quite a long time before the main act comes on after the supporting act, but Dirty projectors appeared very quickly performing the beautiful Two Doves as the first song of their set. It seemed to me though that their set was rather short or perhaps I was just enjoying it too much that I completely lost sense of time. I love Dave Longstreth's voice and on the albums the three girls accompany him beautifully and live the addition of the girls' voices works even better. Their drummer Brian McComber was amazing as well and Amber Coffman looked very pretty as did the two other girls. The best surprise came at the very end when they all of a sudden started to play Knotty Pine. I had searched for some setlists from previous concerts of them this year but I didn't see Knotty Pine being on any of them and because it's a song recorded for the album Dark Was The Night, which is a collaboration album featuring songs by various artists, I didn't expect them to play it. So when they started playing the song I filled up with excitement. It took a while before it actually sunk in that they were playing the song. It was a real surprise. It's one of my favourite songs by the band and the one which actually got me into them. I had heard about them before but they seemed a difficult band to get into. Of course when Bitte Orca received so many great reviews, many people saying that it's the best album of 2009 together with Animal Collective's Merriweather Post Pavillon, I couldn't ignore them any longer and started really listening to them and fell in love. Another song I really love is Rise Above and they played it. A shame they didn't play What I See and I don't remember them playing No Intention either, but I could be wrong about that :) Sometimes it happens that I don't really recognize songs any more at concerts and forget which one is what exactly. It happened during WOMEN :D

Here are two videos from YouTube of both Dirty Projectors and TuNe-YaRdS

@%FORGET DOUTZEN HERE COMES LARA|}

It's time that people here start to focus on Lara Stone for a bit. I wonder if people know she's Dutch, she was born and raised here. Her father's from the UK and her mother's Dutch, but she's always listed as a Dutch model, so therefore I guess we can say she's more Dutch than British. I would like to see her get a bit of attention around here. It's always Doutzen, Doutzen, Doutzen who grabs all the attention.
I always like it when people from my country make it big. I guess it's a bit patriotic of me. Of course at the end of the day I wouldn't really care, but it's just because it shows me that people who grew up in the same part of the world like me can really achieve something and rise to the top. It gives me a bit of hope, you know. :) So it's cool seeing Lara being so successful. I wouldn't be surprised if she turns out to be the next number 1 female model out there and takes over Raquel Zimmermann's spot.

Anyway, here she's on the cover of W challenging Briggite Bardot

I'm tired of sleeping ;)

And did I ever mention how much I love Animal Collective. Just needed to say that, because I really enjoy their music. I feel I have not given them enough love.

And because I feel like posting a video, here's Animal Collective's My Girls. It's been out for months, I know. But see how great it still looks

}+WOMEN~!

They were playing in Paradiso tonight for only 7 euros. But I didn't go. Too tired. Too cold. Needed to work on essays and stuff 'cause deadlines are getting nearer. I may regret it one day yes, but let's not think about that. But their album, their self-titled debut is GOOD. First listen I wasn't sure, but it's a real grower. It's a strange kind of album as well. It kind of has this instrumental feel and sometimes reminds me of the chaos Animal Collective is able to create. But I keep listening to it and I enjoy it. A lot. So go check them out if you want. It's nice. Why are they called Women? I have no idea.
Oh, and they're from Canada. Just sayin' ;-)
