-+AS A CHILD I KILLED MY THOUGHTS'}

From now on I'm going to take really good care and be very protective of this little one right here, 'cause this boy works! I might even come up with a name for this dude, 'cause this toy machine is my new love! For a long while I was unable to fill it up with a film roll, don't know what I was doing wrong?? But before I went off to Lille I suddenly managed and to my great surprise it works really well, not like the one I had before which was CRAP. Almost all of the pictures came out right. So me and the little fellow are gonna have lots of fun this summer! :P

?_DIANA F+ OR HOLGA)*

It's my birthday and I get to choose a new camera!!! :D

So...

I've narrowed it down to two options, either the Diana F+ Glow In The Dark or the Holga Jack (as in Jack White of the White Stripes!)

Diana F+ Glow In The Dark

Holga Jack

I can't decide :(((
Right now I'm more in favour of the Diana F though, not sure why

EDIT: I've made my decision :DD Waiting for it to arrive!!

$*ME AND MY DEAD ACTION SAMPLER_+

On Thursday I tried to fix my 4 Lens Lomo Action Sampler, so I unscrewed the thing, but now I don't know how to screw it back together. I don't think I managed to fix it either. I have ordered another one from eBay today.

Have a look

This post is actually a bit old as it took me ages to get this video on the internet, the file was way too big for Vimeo and took way too long for YouTube. Fortunately Dailymotion was there to help out!

The quality of this video is way better than my previous webcam vid because I made it at my parent's place on their laptop. So that's why ;)

Once again working at the IDFA tomorrow! :)

!(A DAY TO STAY IN>{

So I thought let's go outside today, pick up the pictures I brought to get developed and then head to the library to get some nice photography books and maybe after go for a walk and take some pictures. But as soon as I stepped outside the wind almost blew me away. At one point my black hat even flew from my head and I head to run after it to not let the wind take it away! It's horrible weather. A bit of wind is okay, but this is way too much. Better stay inside to watch movies, draw, make paintings, take pictures and read Virginia Woolf's To the Lighthouse, all while listening to some music. Summer lies far behind us.

One of the film rolls I had developed was a pretty old one coming from this camera that has not been used in a very long time. No idea what the roll contained. So I'm surprised to see that it contained some pictures of me from prom night when I was still in secondary school. Vintage me :)

Guess I did change, or at least a tiny bit ;)
In two of these pictures I look pretty awful though hehe
Btw I dont have lipstick on in picture two, my lips just get red like that sometimes. All natural ;)

The second film roll contained nothing of course cause that one came from my 4 Lens Lomo Action Sampler :((

!*DISAPPOINTED:_

I feel so sad and confused and it's all the fault of my Action Sampler camera. I've been using up to 3 film rolls so far and most of the strips came out blank. I only had like 5 pictures maybe, but all of them completely blurred. I'm feeling so disheartened. It's frustrating 'cause I know I'll keep trying until it works, but this might mean I will have to face many more disappointments. I just want to have one clear picture, just some proof I'm using the camera right 'cause so far I have no idea what's going wrong. I seem to very well follow all the instructions but I still havent had any success. It might be that it's still too dark, but then again, I've been using a 400 ISO film which should be perfectly okay for taking pictures outside especially under the whether conditions right now. It's so not cool knowing you invest some money into something and then having to watch it all go to waste. And I'm not sure whether I still need to go out and take all these trips to all these cool places knowing I run the risk none of the pictures I take are actually taken. I was so hoping I would have some 4 lens pictures from the Mew gig!!! :(( I feel betrayed by this camera and I love it so much.
I want some good results!!!!

Last night I finally watched The Shining. Yup, I had never seen it before (!) or not really. I guess I've seen bits and pieces as a kid 'cause the film has been on TV a gazillion times. But last night was the first time I really saw it. I was surprised to find out after having seen it that the film didn't get much love when it came out and Stanley Kubrick even got a Razzie nomination for Worst Director, WHAT??! How can they do that to him?! By now the film is considered a classic and is as well known as any of Kubrick's other films. So far I've only seen 2001, A Clockwork Orange and Barry Lyndon. I know I know, I haven't even seen Dr. Strangelove, what kind of ex-film student am I?! But in order for me to go and watch that one someone needs to convince me it will not get me disappointed 'cause I have a feeling it will just not be my kind of film 'cause it's a comedy/satire, or that's what I've understood it is. Oh, and of course I've seen Spartacus, how could I forget. I bet anyone has seen that film. But as with The Shining I don't remember it that well, same for Eyes Wide Shut, 'cause, again I forgot, I've seen that one too once. What I liked most about The Shining was the effective use of music 'cause the images or story didn't scare me at all, but the music had me shaken up a bit once or twice. Only one scene close to the end gave me a bit of a fright for a moment, but that was about it. Apart from that I laughed because of this old woman from a bathtub who was supposed to look scary and pondered on Shelly Duvall's acting abilities. Some people are pretty quick at calling someone a bad actor/actress but I always find it hard to make that kind of judgement as there are many ways to act and there are many ways people act in real life. A performance at first might seem unnatural but then later you come to realize that there are actual people who act that way. I feel that a performance should be based more on believeability, whether you would believe the character's emotions and responses and consider them authentic and there might not be such a thing as good or bad acting. But Shelley Duvall really gave me a hard time. If there's one performance a lot of people would agree on isn't all that good, it would be Shelley Duvall's performance in The Shining. It first started when she brought Jack Nicholson's character breakfast. In that scene she delivers her lines as if she's reading them from a paper, zero emotion, not heartfelt at all. It's like she spoke those lines for the sake of speaking them. From that point on it just went downhill for her. At times she appears like this frigthened little mouse all shaken up standing in a corner and trying to climb up the walls. She so enthusiastically hyperventilates that she seems to have lost it and has no clue what she's doing. I started wondering if the woman had ever looked into the mirror before she came on set and started acting this way. And then there was the awkward moving of her arms while she runs with a knife in her hand and giving looks as if she's a fish out of the water gasping for air. Her entire performance just screams failure. But at the same time part of me felt she was perfect for the role, 'cause she's so thin and fragile looking and has these big eyes which can make her seem both harmless as well as batshit crazy. Unfortunately for Shelley Duvall, she ended up looking batshit crazy. I mean, even in the French dubbed version she looks terrible.

Coucou, chérie! Yup she definitely looks cuckoo ;)

By the way, give the kid a haircut please

No wonder Jack Nicholson's character wants to kill his son.

@*A TRIUMPH FOR MEW"+

Saw Mew last night and I even took some pictures, more so than I usually do. Most of the time I take zero actually. But my recent photography workshop meetings have inspired me to take more pictures and keep playing with the depth of field and which subject to put the focus on. So that was kind of my assignment and the kind of pictures I wanted to take. Well, a couple of them turned out okay. The thing is, I never look at what I've photographed when I'm at a concert. I just click and then click again, without looking at what I captured. I do this to not get disappointed when a picture doesn't work out and prevent me from getting too caught up with trying to get the right picture. First and foremost I'm there to see the band play not to be a photographer. So I want to enjoy the music as well and therefore I try to not take too many pictures. But last night I balanced it out quite well. Some pictures could have been nicer would Jonas Bjerre, lead singer of the band, not have held his microphone in front of his face so much, but I'm already happy to have taken some really clear pictures without any blur. I also used my lomography camera three times I think. But with that one it's even more of a mystery of whether the pictures turned out okay or not, especially considering I've already wasted two film stocks! Now let's go to the actual concert and leave the photographs aside. It was one of the best gigs I've been to this year. Passion Pit take note, this is how you do a concert, 'cause those guys got a lot to learn. What immediately struck me was Mew's professionality. They have a lot of experience which isn't strange for a band who already put out so many albums, recently having released album number five! And that experience can be very well heard. At certain moments I felt a bit Phoenix-esque even though both bands are pretty different. I guess at the core however, they're kind of similar both making rock music with a strong pop sound added to it. Maybe it was also the great light show which reminded me of the Phoenix concert I went to earlier this year. Whatever it was, I was reminded of them, that being a very good thing. But Mew is definitely a band of their own with Jonas' vocals being a great part of that. I don't know how he does it. I can't believe he really sounds like this and his voice was so clear, it sounded perfect. I wonder how his speaking voice sounds. His voice is one of the most unique ones I've heard. It's high, but not in a girly way, not at all. But I love listening to it and live he sounded just as good as when listening to him in mp3 format. They played some songs from their new record while also playing some from their earlier ones. So far I only listened to their latest release as well as their first album A Triumph For Man, the other three I've started listening to only yesterday actually. So last night I didn't know every song, but the energy of the band and that of the audience made that I could fully enjoy those songs as well without having the feeling of not fitting in. Instead of Mew I could have seen another band last night in Paradiso called Miike Snow. But because they're fairly new I chose the more experienced band with a larger fanbase. I did this because I expected the Mew audience to be way more enthusiastic than those people at Miike Snow who might have been a bit reluctant to dance and fully let go considering Miike Snow is still such a new and fairly unknown band. I doubt there's anyone who already proclaims them as their favourite band. With Mew it's a different thing which showed, 'cause I saw some people walking around in the band's merchandise. So I knew a lot of people were going to fully enjoy this and it wasn't a surprise to me that the concert eventually had been sold out. From what I experienced last night I can say I really enjoy the Mew crowd. You could see it was filled with some die hard fans and not only those cool and hip looking people for whom going to a concert also means to be looked at. I like it when you see some people not caring about the clothes they wear 'cause it shows all the more they're here mainly for the music. Because it was sold out the place was packed which made that I could feel the energy of the audience really well. Some people jumped and really went wild others danced and enjoyed the gig but without the crazy arms. At the start however, the concert almost got completely ruined as there was this guy who just took up my spot out of nowhere. I thought he wanted to pass me so I gave him some room but instead he just stayed and basically took my spot. I just could feel the waterfall of tears inside me pouring down. I felt so hurt. How could you do that to me?! I was so into the concert after the first song, so full of surprise with the awesomeness of Mew and then this shitty guy just decides to take over my spot. I was so taken by surprise that I couldn't even say anything about it. I just could not understand why anyone would do that. It was just cruel. But I managed to put it all aside and some minutes later I was completely enjoying the concert again. But whoever this kid was, not cool to just take over my spot like that! But like I said it was one of the best concerts I saw this year. Great atmosphere, great sound, fun light show and visuals. I couldn't have imagined it any better. Mew might not be one of those bands I would totally go crazy for but they're definitely a great band to see live. When they return I would definitely like to see them again which isn't something I can say about some of the bands/artists that I like even more. They're really one of those bands who bring a whole new experience to their music when playing live. I can't wait for this month to be over and December 4th to come. Could Julian Casablancas be even better? Considering his album and how much I love it, I'd say yes. But we'll see. Anyway, I'm so excited for that night, it's gonna be fun.

In some minutes I'll go take a shower and then get back into the metro to retake all those pictures I took with my lomography camera but which didn't work out. Plus, there's a place I've wanted to visit for a long time so I'll be going there today. And tonight my third photography workshop! It's gonna be a fun day. Hope not too much rain :(

!*LOMOGRAPHY FAIL)/

After trying two times I still don't have any LOMO pictures!!! :(( There are two possibilities for why it hasn't worked out yet. The first one is that I might have to use a special LOMO film for this camera and not just any type of 35mm. But, I don't see it stated anywhere that this is necessary. It should work fine with any 35mm film. A second possibility is that when I took out the second film today I noticed something still stuck inside that said 'remove'. So well, I guess that little object still stuck in my camera is why so far I don't have any pictures yet :) I have in the meantime bought a package of 35mm lomography film stock, so my chances of succeeding should increase. Also, I threw away the tiny piece of plastic which had 'remove' written on it. So if it doesn't work now I don't know what I'm doing wrong!!! The ISO of the film is 400 which should be fine for this type of weather, 'cause there's no ray of sunlight in sight. If only I discovered the LOMO a couple of months ago. Would have been so great to take summer pictures filled with sunshine :)

This evening I'll be seeing Mew. Of course I'm bringing my LOMO with me.
