I don't know how it happened but I had an extremely nice afternoon today which is strange because it didn't start that good. I wanted to see Brüno at 3pm but it turned out they had made a mistake on the website and the film was only playing at 4.30pm. So I called my mum who was already at home and she told me what other films were playing which is how I ended up watching Wendy And Lucy in a different cinema. The one I go to almost every Sunday with my parents. After having visted FOAM where I looked at some photography books I decided to look for them. I never really thought about looking for photography books. 'Cause what I like most about magazines are the pictures, the editorials. Most magazines are pretty expensive and I often find them to feature way too many words. It's nice to read interviews every now and then but one thing I really never get tired of is looking at pictures. I do get tired of reading the articles sometimes. Plus it often happens that I read almost every article after having just bought a magazine. So then all there's left are the pictures. And it just so happens to be that I re-look at pictures more than I re-read an article. That actually never happens. So today I went into some book shops to look for those books and there are so many of them! There's this whole new world for me to discover 'cause I found books which had pages full of just drawings and other great stuff as well. It's going to be one of my new main priorities. Just gazing at all the photography and art books in book stores. :)
Wendy And Lucy was nice, by the way, though a bit short and I never happened to get the chance to fully connect with Wendy. The film was too short for me to really care for her that much. Michelle Williams was great though, as expected. I had only heard good things about her performance so I'm glad I went to see it. It also features Wil Oldham aka Bonnie Prince Billy and John Robinson who plays John in Gus Van Sant's Elephant. When he appeared ons creen I immediately knew it was him even though he looks really different now. Short hair and broad shoulders. Quite a big transformation. But I might have noticed before on Imdb that he was in this film so that's why I immediately knew it had to be him I think. Also, Gabe Nevins made an appearance who plays Alex in Gus Van Sant's Paraboid Park. You don't really see him 'cause he walks by the car in which Wendy sleeps with some friends. You can hear them speak but you don't see their faces. But he was listed on the end credits. Also Leslie Schatz who has done the sound on several of Van Sant's films did the sound for this one. Plus the film was shot in Portland. So there were a lot of Van Sant connections. When I was riding back home from my parents' place just an hour ago I was thinking about how this film in a way is like a bit of a modern day version of Umberto D. Both are about a character who shares a strong relation with a dog and who go through live alone. And in both films the dog gets lost.
I have noticed how every time, nomatter the film, I happen to be on some kind of high when leaving the cinema. It's just that watching a movie gives me so much inspiration and brings so many ideas to my mind. They kind of recharge my battery. So afterwards I really feel I can take on the entire world and feel like I'm walking down the street with my head in the clouds. They gave me confidence while also really stimulating and activating my creative side. So after having left the cinema I started taking pictures and I just didn't care about all those people whose eyes start to point towards the ground when I pass by which means they have a closer look at my boots and long socks. :) I don't know why people find them to be so fascinating. In my world they're really normal and it's not a strange combination, boots plus long socks. But then again not everyone has seen the latest collections from designers and labels such as Dsquared for example.
I could have gone to CocoRosie, but I didn't. I just don't feel right spending something like 28 euros on them. I mean, they probably really worth the money, but when thinking about the fact that seeing Patrick Wolf is much and much cheaper it's just not fair. I love his music way more than CocoRosie's even though I really like CocoRosie as well. It's just that I've listened to Pat Pat more and I seem to have a much stronger affection for his music as well as him as an artist. CocoRosie is not my favourite act and there are bands that I would go see over them. So that's why I didn't go. Plus I will see Final Fantasy on Wednesday instead. I have a greater interest in him than in CocoRosie for some reason and the concert is just ten euros which really is nothing.
But I had a good day anyway so I don't mind not having been to Paradiso tonight. I won't really regret it this time.

>^HOTTEST DAY OF THE YEAR?+_
This The Fashionisto website really is the best. They post so many new and very cool editorials.
I have to admit, something that I just realized recently, that at times I really look forward to seeing updates on certain sites or blogs that I visit on a daily basis. And when there's finally an update It makes me real happy and sometimes I even save them up and tend to read them a bit later or not all updates at once just to have something new to read or look at during the evening or the next day. Those sites are really a big part of my life when you think about it. Imagine having to visit all those places physically every day. It would take up all of my time.
Yesterday I went to FOAM (Photography Museum Amsterdam). Unfortunately I can't remember the name of the photographer that I liked most and for some reason this person isn't listed on the FOAM website. Strange. I also liked Guy Tillim's work a lot. Great and dare I say it simple compositions. It just shows that composition is key. Even if you find something really cool to shoot when you don't know how to frame everything the results won't be that great. Guy Tillim's pictures to me show that dividing the frame by a piece of wall or placing a certain object at the forefront so that it becomes a means to slice up the image so to speak, is very crucial and doesn't require that much. Just slicing it up using very simple objects can lead to great results.
Here's one of the pictures that are being shown.

For another two go here
Today probably was the hottest day of the year so far. Because yesterday was an active day for me I decided to just spend the day at my parents' place, but of course I couldn't stay inside all day. So I went out with my skateboard and camera and was very active taking pictures more so than I was skateboarding. Because I don't have a human being model walking along with me 24/7 that I can take pictures of I decided to use my skateboard instead. I seriously need to start stalking people and ask if they want to pose for me! 'Cause I really did got tired of flowers, grass, trees, flowers, grass, trees, flowers, greass, trees... I need to find a new and exciting place where I can take lots of pictures. I hope I'll find it soon.
Nowadays I really can't leave the house wearing just a plain T-shirt with jeans, unless I wear boots with them, at least some kind of item that is a bit more fashionable. I do have a lot of clothes though and so far I've managed to put together some really nice ensemble every day. It has led to a young man and woman briefly stopping their conversation as I walked by with my boots and long socks as well as some random girls screaming after me: ooooo nice legs! when I past them on my bike LOL Another guy whispered to the person he was walking with: are boots very fashionable right now or something? And a while ago this girl who I guess was visiting a friend living in the same corridor as me asked me for a bottle opener. She rang the ball and her first reaction when seeing me was: whoa. I can't be 100% sure what kind of 'whoa' that was, but it seemed to me it was one of 'whoa, he looks pretty weird' instead of 'whoa, this guy looks good!!'. Could be the last option as well, but I doubt it ;)
I have to admit that at times I forget to take pictures because I'm too busy prancing around. Horrible, horrible, horrible and very pathetic. I know!! ;D
Here are pictures from an editorial posted on The Fashionisto. And apparently this site only focuses on male modelling because I don't see any editorials featuring women. I guess that's why it's called The Fashionisto and not the Fashionista.
I post the following editorial in its entirety. I like it that much.
Photographer: RJ Shaughnessy
Stylist: Jem Goulding
Model: the great and very inspiring Josh Beech
The editorial can be found in Future Claw Magazine and I just found out you can flicker through all of their three issues on their website! :D

From The Fashionisto
After having just found out COÛTE QUE COÛTE is back I noticed they have posted this editorial as well but with much bigger pictures!! So GOOD!!

The light in this picture really is to die for. If I was forced to only look at this image for the rest of my life I would feel content.
I hope it will rain tomorrow. A lot. I don't feel like being too active tomorrow. And even I can get tired of going to the cinema sometimes. 'Cause of course I didn't only go to FOAM yesterday. That was just to have something to do during the afternoon and make the day a bit longer. 'Cause after I watched Megane in this cinema called Rialto, a very relaxing Japanese film with lots of nice food. It's all about enjoying the simplicities of life. Very soothing. So by the time that one was finished it was already around 7pm which is close to the end of the day and thus a day well spent.
I could go see CocoRosie tomorrow evening in Paradiso but it's 25 euros and that's without adding the extra service costs. I find that pretty expensive. This morning I noticed that going to see Final Fantasy in Utrecht for 10 euros plus the train ticket will cost me something like 17,50 euros in total. So I decided to go see him instead. Gravenhurst will be one of the supporting acts which is pretty cool. Normally I would not have to pay for the train ticket 'cause it's on a Wednesday, but until August 16th I can't use my public transport card which gives me free access to all public transport throughout all of the country. Bummer.
I recently bought the latest Dazed & Confused issue which comes with 3D glasses. Unfortunately those glasses don't give me the Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince effect which I was hoping for :(( But then again what else could I have expected from a simple magazine. I'm just a tiny bit dissapointed.
This tea I'm drinking tastes like cardboard...
I just found out COUTE QUE COUTE is back already, meaning this post is getting a lil bit longer
I like these two pictures

From Vogue Paris August 2009 issue.
Shot by Inez Van Lamsweerde (she's Dutch and has made quite a big name for herself in the industry) and Vinoodh Matadin
Daria, I just had to post her. She can do no wrong.

OAK NYC Summer editorials. Don't worry, I won't get any tattoos. I do really like them though. More than I did ever before. A LOT more :)

This ad for Adidas SLVR is only one minute long and very simple black and white, but really good. Nice music/soundscape as well. I especially like this part. Nice shape.

I don't know why exactly but I really like these pictures from the new Lanvin campaign

All content from COUTE QUE COUTE
I've been going through a bit of a Bloc Party phase these last couple of days. Wish I could see them live.
Christopher Boone you'll always be my number 1 hero! :D

>+ALL YOU CAN EAT + MY FAVOURITE CINEMA ROOM}-
I watched Claire Denis' 35 Rhums today which is all kinds of amazing. I had no idea. It was my first ever Claire Denis film. I thought I had seen some of her films before but I've been confusing her with Catherine Breillat who is a complete different person :) There's music composed by Tindersticks which suits the images so well. It opens with sequences from the front of a metro. The movement, the light, it was just how I like it and how I would have done it myself. Beautiful. I loved every second. Couldn't get enough. And then there's the girl who plays Joséphine, Mati Diop, who is extremely pretty. She has this very natural beauty and I was impressed by how seductive she can look as well. The chemistry between her and actor Grégoire Colin was amazing. You could feel the tension, the heat, the fireworks.
I saw it at the cinema I go to almost every Sunday called Cinecenter and finally after a very long time we got to watch a film in my favourite room again, the one with what I call the Christmas lighting. I know they're not at all Christmas related but I don't know how else to refer to them. So after months of not having been in that room I could finally take the pictures I had been longing to make. Now of course I want to go back and take more. So hopefully the film we're going to see next week will be played in the same room again. I even took out the Polaroid camera and that one only comes out on special occasions :)
It drizzled a tiny bit

My favourite room in this cinema

I have lunch like this almost every Sunday. I do start to feel a bit spoiled. :p

This might probably be the best fruit juice you'll find in all of Amsterdam, seriously.

And then I took pictures of the laundry because...??

Yesterday my parents and I had dinner at Genroku a Japanese 'all you can eat' restaurant in Amsterdam. They had 5 rounds and each person could order 5 items per round. I managed to order 5 items every round and eat some of the things my parents ordered. I didn't even feel that stuffed at the end. I love Japanese food especially all kinds of sushi.
I tried all their Nigini suhis except for the Maguro (tuna) one. So that makes 16 of those, plus some extra which my parents ordered. I had one Tobiko handroll (flying fish roe) At least more than three avocado sake makis. Two Sashimi Sakes (salmon) and one time Sashimi Maguro (tuna). I had two Chuka Wakame salads (seaweed). I had one Kushi Yaki with vegetables on a stick called Yasaiyaki. Plus one with fishballs. Then I had at least more than 4 vegetable dumplings, one deep-fried prawn and a piece of tofu (fried bean curd). I also had some pieces of fried vegetables and one big piece of salmon with teriyaki sauce. I also had two sushi kind of things with mussels and one with corn that werent on the main menu. And as a desert I had four small pieces of lychee which are a kind of fruit. Pretty juicy.
So I can't say I was starving by the end of the evening.
I would love to go there again. I like all you can eat restaurants. They're fun. :D
COÛTE QUE COÛTE this site I've come to like a lot is on a summer break so I had to look for a new site/blog to find some interesting editorials. I think I've found a nice one in The Fashionisto
If it wasn't for this blog I would not have seen the following editorials

These pictures from Rad Hourani's fall 2009 collection has been on almost every fashion/model related website/blog, not just on The Fashionisto.
I like the clothes. It's design that's wearable and doesn't look that out there when worn out on the street.

Inspired By F.S. is a blog I just came across. Made by a 17 year old Dutch kid
It has led me to once more check out this blog called We Could Grow Up Together. I already knew about it but I don't check for updates every day. Maybe I should 'cause these images are really good. The blog is owned by photographer Kwannam Chu. He took these pictures!

His pictures are always really good btw. Worth checking out occasionally.

That's it for now.
Tomorrow probably another day inside the cinema. I'll better start looking for art galleries or something. Just to change things up a bit. And I should go to CocoRosie on Friday. I'll just close my eyes and pretend I didn't see it will costs me more than 25 euros to see them.
I didn't know there was a hype I just noticed her name all over several of the websites I visit on a daily basis. I'm talking Florence + The Machine. I checked out the debut album Lungs and I quite like it. I can't really place it, but it's definitely different than most of the stuff I listen to mostly.
Here they are performing on the Jonathan Ross show
I was supposed to stop, brush my teeth and hop into bed, but than I saw these.
